Yangzhou Polytechnic, situated in Yangzhou, Jiangsu Province—one of China’s first designated historical and cultural cities and a recipient of the "United Nations Habitat Award"—is located within the Yangzhou Science and Education Park. The campus spans a total area of 1027 mu (approximately 684 hectares) with a built-up area of 400,000 square meters. With a rich history, Yangzhou Polytechnic is a key construction unit of a high-level vocational school with Chinese characteristics in Jiangsu Province, a provincial demonstration higher vocational college, and an advanced vocational education institution in Jiangsu. It has consistently ranked first in comprehensive assessments of high-quality development among Jiangsu universities from 2019 to 2023. Additionally, it has been recognized as one of the top 50 national vocational colleges with international influence for three consecutive years (2020-2022), and has received accolades such as the "Top 60 Typical Schools for Service Contribution," "Top 100 Excellent Colleges for Student Development Index," and "Top 100 Excellent Colleges for Teacher Development Index" for two consecutive years. In 2015, the Jiangsu Provincial Department of Education and the Yangzhou Municipal People's Government signed an agreement to jointly support the school's advancement to a higher level.
The university comprises several schools and departments, including Chemical Engineering, Architectural Engineering, Intelligent Manufacturing, Information Engineering, Business, Art and Design, Transportation Engineering, Electrical Business (School of Innovation and Entrepreneurship), International Education, Continuing Education, Marxism, Basic Science, and Physical Education. Aligned with Jiangsu’s "1650" industrial system and Yangzhou’s "613" industrial system, the university offers 47 majors aimed at cultivating high-quality technical talent for regional economic and social development. Currently, it enrolls over 16,000 full-time students, including more than 1,000 undergraduate students through joint programs with institutions like Changzhou University, Nanjing Institute of Technology, and others, as well as over 260 international students.
Yangzhou Polytechnic is a pioneer in modern apprenticeship systems, industry-university collaborative education, and the "1+X" certificate system. It hosts the National Teaching Resource Database for Industrial Analysis Technology and Petrochemical Technology majors and serves as a pilot institution for diagnosing and improving the internal quality assurance system of Jiangsu higher vocational colleges. The university boasts three national production training bases, two training bases supported by central financial resources, six provincial training bases (platforms), one provincial industrial college, one provincial talent training model innovation experimental base, one national collaborative innovation center, and one provincial university demonstration Marxist college.
The university offers six state-level backbone majors, two centrally funded construction majors, two provincial high-level professional groups, three provincial key construction majors (groups), four provincial characteristic majors, five provincial brand (backbone) majors, and one provincial international brand major. It has won two second prizes in national teaching achievement awards and one first prize in national excellent teaching material construction awards. The university has also published 15 national "14th Five-Year Plan" teaching materials, developed eight state-level online quality courses, 25 provincial-level online quality courses, and two national curriculum ideological and political demonstration courses. The faculty consists of nearly 1,000 staff members, including 790 full-time teachers, 37.9% of whom hold senior professional titles, 92.3% have master's degrees or above, and over 170 possess doctoral degrees (including those in progress). The university attracts high-level talents such as those from the "Six Talent Peaks," "333 Project," and "Blue Project" in provincial colleges and universities. It has 14 provincial excellent teaching teams and scientific innovation teams, and two renowned teaching teachers in Jiangsu Province.
Yangzhou Polytechnic focuses on enhancing the quality of talent cultivation, adhering to the educational philosophy of "planting cultural heritage, excelling in one skill." It has continuously deepened educational reforms and established a distinctive "1520X" student support service system. Over the past five years, students have achieved remarkable success in various competitions, winning 139 provincial-level first prizes and securing 13 gold awards and one Best Employment Promotion Award in the China International College Student Innovation Competition. From 2018 to 2024, it is the only vocational college in China to win seven consecutive gold awards in this competition.
In recent years, the university has been approved for six consecutive years as a provincial engineering research center and has undertaken over 140 high-level scientific research projects, including National Natural Science Foundation projects and Ministry of Education humanities and social science research projects. The number of approved provincial science and technology deputy projects consistently ranks among the top in higher vocational education in Jiangsu Province, while the number of authorized invention patents ranks among the top nationally (third in 2021, fifth in 2022, and second in 2023). The number of papers published in core journals and the turnover of "five technologies" service contracts are also among the best in higher vocational education in Jiangsu Province.
The university adheres to the principle of win-win cooperation in service development, deepening the integration of industry and education and school-enterprise collaboration. It leads the establishment of national energy and chemical inspection and certification industry education alliances, the national building fire industry education alliance, and the Yangzhou intelligent equipment production and education consortium. It has maintained long-term and close cooperative relations with large state-owned enterprises such as Sinopec, CNCC, and Shanghai Volkswagen, industry leaders like Huawei, Tencent, Alibaba, Qianxin, ZTE, and Mitsubishi, as well as many national and provincial economic development zones. It has established over 600 high-quality graduate employment bases, ensuring that its graduates’ employment rate remains among the highest in the province. According to the Survey Report on the Employment of Junior College Graduates (2022) by Jiangsu Enrollment and Employment Guidance Service Center, the core data of graduate employment at our school is at the leading level in higher vocational colleges in Jiangsu Province, and it has consistently maintained the honorary title of the province's advanced collective unit in employment.
Adhering to the strategy of opening up, Yangzhou Polytechnic actively serves the construction of the "Belt and Road" initiative and conducts international students' education. It is one of the first vocational colleges in China to pass the quality certification of higher vocational education for international students, one of the first "Training Schools for Overseas Students in Jiangsu Province," and an advanced collective for international students' education in Jiangsu Province. It has established a national Luban Workshop operation project, a China-Arab (UAE) Zheng He College project, three international cooperation quality projects of the Ministry of Education, two provincial high-level demonstration Sino-foreign cooperation projects, and one characteristic cooperation project of China-Asean higher vocational colleges.
