Shandong Vocational and Technical University of International Studies

Shandong Vocational and Technical University of International Studies (SWUT), formerly named as Shandong Foreign Languages Vocational College, was founded in August 2005 after the authorization of Shandong Provincial People’s Government and the validation of Ministry of Education of the People’s Republic of China. It is a full-time private higher education institution sponsored by Shandong Huaxin Industry Group. Since December 2018, the university has been approved by Ministry of Education to offer vocational bachelor’s degree programs, ranking in the first 15 vocational undergraduate institutions in China. Subsequently, in May 2019, it was officially renamed as Shandong Vocational and Technical University of International Studies. In January 2023, with the approval of Office of Academic Degrees Committee of Shandong Provincial People’s Government, the university was qualified to confer vocational bachelor’s degree. Currently there are over 21,000 full-time students studying in our nine faculties, including School of Foreign Languages, School of International Business, School of Information Engineering, School of Finance and Accounting, School of International Education, School of Cultural Creativity and Tourism, School of Intelligent Science and Control Engineering, Institute of Marxism and Public Teaching Department. At present, we offer 41 majors, 17 of them are bachelor's degree ones and 24 are diploma ones. Under the leadership of the Chinese Communist Party, by fully implementing the Party’s education policy, the university has achieved language-oriented quality development with the concept of integration of enterprise and university, so as to better serve the society. Adhering to the school motto of “To be where you are, to go where you dream”, we have focused on moral education to vigorously cultivate high-level technical and skilled talents and serve high-quality regional economic and social development. We are the only pilot higher education institution in Shandong Province to carry out moral education through the integration of multilingual versions of Xi Jinping: The Governance of China into campus, textbooks, and classes. In addition, we also won the “Model for Red Culture Inheritance in Shandong Province” and “Green Campus in Shandong Province”. We have kept the membership of seven international organizations, including the China Education Association for International Exchange and International Alliance for Belt & Road and BRICS Skills Development. We have ten R&D and promotion platforms, including “New Technology R&D Center of Digital Language Service in Shandong Higher Education Institutions”, “New Technology R&D Center of Digital Finance in Shandong Higher Education Institutions”, “Cross-border E-commerce Training Base in Shandong Province”, “Big Data Talent Training Base in Shandong Province”. In addition, the university has been awarded “A National Model for Party Building”, “A Provincial Model for Party Building in the New Era in Shandong”, “Top 50 in National Vocational Colleges for International Influence” and “A Provincial Model for Enterprise-Integration in Shandong Province”. In the long process of running the school, upholding the leadership of the CPC, the university has adhered to the attributes and characteristics of vocational education, and has followed the pathway centered on “one goal, two modes and three kinds of integration”, which means taking serving the high-quality development of Rizhao as its goal, deepening the construction of “university + enterprise” community and “city + university” community, and continuously deepening university-enterprise integration, industry-education integration and city-university integration. This path helps the university form the vocational education mode, high-level technical and skilled personnel cultivation mode, and the internationalization development mode of vocational education with its own characteristics. In period of the “14th Five-Year Plan”, the university will continue to thoroughly implement the Xi Jinping’s Thought on Socialism with Chinese Characteristics for a New Era, fully carry out the spirit of the 20th CPC National Congress, adapt to the requirements of high-quality development of vocational education in the new era, and continue to carry out the “Exquisite SWUT” vocational undergraduate education quality enhancement campaign, striving to build a distinctive high-level vocational and technical university and promoting high-quality development of the regional economy and society.
