Shanghai University of Electric Power, located in Shanghai, is a full-time general institution of higher learning jointly built by the central government and Shanghai and managed mainly by Shanghai. The school has gone through the development and evolution of Shanghai Electric Power School, Shanghai Power School, Shanghai Electric Power School, Shanghai Electric Power College, and Shanghai Electric Power College; it officially started running schools at the master's level in 2006, and became a doctorate-granting unit in 2018. On November 30, 2018, Shanghai Electric Power University officially changed its name to Shanghai Electric Power University.
