Shanghai Sport University, referred to as "Shanghai", is located in Shanghai. It is a sports general higher education institution jointly constructed and managed by the State Sports General Administration and the Shanghai Municipal People's Government. It is a national "double first-class" construction university and a pilot construction unit of Shanghai's high-level local universities. . Shanghai Sport University was founded in November 1952, formerly known as East China Institute of Physical Education. It was formed from the physical education departments and departments of the former Nanjing University, Jinling Women's University, and East China Normal University. In 1956, it was renamed Shanghai Institute of Physical Education. The school was formerly directly under the State Sports General Administration. In June 2001, it became a full-time general higher education institution jointly constructed and managed by the State Sports General Administration and the Shanghai Municipal People's Government, and sponsored by the Shanghai Municipal People's Government. In June 2023, the Ministry of Education issued a letter agreeing that Shanghai Institute of Sport should be renamed Shanghai Sport University. As of December 2022, the school has three campuses, Yangpu, Xuhui, and Songjiang, as well as teaching sites in Jiangwan and Huangpu. It covers an area of more than 1,100 acres, and the school building area is about 370,000 square meters; it has 10 colleges, offering undergraduate majors 24; it has 1 first-level discipline doctoral degree authorization point, 9 second-level discipline doctoral degree authorization points, 6 first-level discipline master's degree authorization points, 5 professional master's degree authorization points; there are about 600 full-time teachers.
