Kunming University of Science and Technology (Kunming University of Science and Technology), located in Kunming City, Yunnan Province, is a key university jointly established by the National Defense Science and Technology Industry Bureau and Yunnan Province. The school was established in 1999 by the merger of the former Kunming University of Science and Technology and the former Yunnan University of Technology. The former Kunming University of Science and Technology was founded in 1954 as Kunming Institute of Technology, and was renamed Kunming University of Science and Technology in 1995. The former Yunnan University of Technology was founded in 1974 as Yunnan Institute of Technology, and was renamed Yunnan University of Technology in 1994. The historical starting point can be traced back to the second year of Xuantong in the Qing Dynasty (1910). In 1999, the two universities merged to form the new Kunming University of Science and Technology. In 2004, the Yunnan Provincial Analysis and Testing Center was incorporated. As of May 2023, the school has four campuses: Chenggong, Lianhua, Xinying, and Songming, covering an area of 3,915 acres (excluding the Songming campus); it has 1 department, 27 colleges, and 7 research institutes.
