Xiangtan University (Xiangtan University), referred to as "Xiangda", is located in Xiangtan City, Hunan Province. It is a comprehensive national key university initiated by Comrade Mao Zedong himself, and a national "double first-class" construction university. It is the Hunan Provincial People's Government and the Ministry of Education. The school was founded in 1958. On September 10 of the same year, Comrade Mao Zedong inscribed the school name "Xiangtan University". It was closed for some reason in 1959. In 1974, Comrade Deng Xiaoping approved the restoration of Xiangtan University, positioning it as a comprehensive university of arts, science and engineering. In 1978, Xiangtan University was identified as a comprehensive national key university by the State Council. In 1981, the school became the first batch of master's degree authorization units in the country. In 2022, the school will be selected as a national "double first-class" construction university. According to the school’s official website in May 2023, the school has 24 teaching units; 16 first-level discipline doctoral programs, 32 first-level discipline master’s programs, 19 professional master’s degree categories, and 15 post-doctoral research stations; There are 41,248 full-time students, including 9,756 doctoral and master students. There are 1645 full-time teachers.
