Tianjin Foreign Studies University (TFSU), referred to as "Tianjin Foreign Studies University" or "Tianwai", is located in Tianjin, China. It is a major foreign language university in Tianjin, with literature, economics, management, law, and education It is a key university in Tianjin with coordinated development of multiple disciplines such as science, art, and engineering. It is a receiving institution for international students coming to China on Chinese government scholarships. In 1964, under the care of Premier Zhou Enlai, Tianjin Foreign Studies University was born in response to the needs of the diplomatic cause of the new China. The main body of the school was formerly known as Qinhuangdao Foreign Languages College, which was later renamed Tianjin Foreign Languages College. In 1974, the former Tianjin Foreign Languages College, the former Tianjin Foreign Languages School, the former Tianjin Normal University’s Japanese major, and the former Hebei University’s foreign language and Chinese majors were reorganized into Tianjin Foreign Languages University. In 1981, it was approved as one of the first batch of master’s degree conferring units. In 2010, it was renamed Tianjin Foreign Studies University with the approval of the Ministry of Education. As of May 2022, the school currently has two campuses, Wudao Avenue and Binhai, covering a total area of 464,218.7 square meters. There are 61 undergraduate majors, 1 doctoral talent training program serving the special needs of the country, 7 first-level disciplines for master's degree authorization, 29 second-level disciplines for master's degree authorization, and 7 professional master's degree authorization categories (covering 22 authorized directions ); There are more than 1,000 faculty members and more than 10,000 full-time undergraduate and graduate students.
