In October 1960, it was identified as a national key university by the central government. In March 1993, it was renamed as Northeastern University. In 1987, Northeastern University Qinhuangdao Branch was established in Qinhuangdao City. In 1997, the former Shenyang Gold University was merged into Northeastern University.
